Spiderman is amazing, Marvel’s offer of free comic books – not so much

This was a great marketing idea with all online news sources carrying this story including Yahoo.
The only hitch is that the Marvel servers just cannot handle the load.
The site has been down for the last 6 hours since I saw the article.
Time to move to the cloud-server? I think for any site that has to cope with un-predictable traffic like this example, a cloud solution could be the way to go for its ability to scale from a traffic/load handling point of view.

This Sunday, Marvel Comics announced that 700 of its #1 comic book titles would be available for free online until Tuesday at 11 p.m. Eastern.

This was a great marketing/PR idea with all online news sources carrying this story including Yahoo.com. I thought I would get myself  a comic book or two and take a comic book lunch break today.

The only hitch is that the Marvel servers just cannot seem to handle the load. The download site has been down for the last 6 hours since I saw the article.

Time to move to a cloud-server? I think for any site that has to cope with unpredictable traffic like this example, a cloud solution could be the way to go for its ability to scale from a traffic/load handling point of view.

And that leads me to think: “Should not the marketing staff talk to the technical staff before offering anything for free?”.
