The new People’s Car from Tata Motors which is a micro car with a 25 km/litre mileage on regular gasoline and which meets Euro-4 norms is slated for display on January 10, 2008. This car is expected to revolutionize the automobile industry in India and has already attracted interest from several countries in Africa and Asia. However, environmental groups fear that a car that is almost the same price as a 100cc or 200cc motorcycle will lead to extreme congestion in a country already known for high levels of pollution and traffic congestion.

Edward H. Adelson is a Professor of Vision Science at MIT. His lab focuses on topics in human and machine vision, including mid-level vision, material perception, image statistics, and motion analysis. Some of his findings on how the mind plays tricks are astonishing and can be seen as Flash animations.

These concepts are particularly interesting because a better understanding of how the human mind and vision are wired together can lead to many industrial and product design applications.

After spending 5 minutes at Trulia.com looking at property listings, it became evident to me that this was a service whose forte was presentation and simplicity of use. The concept is simple, allow multiple vendors to submit their property listings, aggregate and classify the data and present it using an intuitive visual interface. Although the number of listings on Trulia is far lower than many internet data exchange services, the interactive map feature allows to you quickly get a feel of a market and also to see neighborhoods on a map. For example if you were looking for a house close to a particular highway or a golf course, this service makes it easy to identify potential places to go looking for a house. Trulia.com is a welcome change from every other depression inducing service that is out there. The service is also testament to the fact that if you just take an existing concept that works, put in an improvement or two along with a certain ‘twist’ you’ve got yourself a brand new service.
