Give Away of the Day (www.giveawayoftheday.com)

Give Away of the Day is a website that does exactly what the name says. It gives away a new software every day. Some it may be useful and some may not, but they are are tested for no adware or spyware and there is a rating system in place for users. So you have nothing to lose. While you are not going to see huge titles for free, you can certainly score a few good software applications for niche use. There is also a free game section where you get a free game of the day. The only requirements for all downloads is that you have to install and activate the software within the give-away period. Over the last few months, I have been able to 2 good video conversion applications from this website.

If the following symptoms apply to you, all you may need to do is swap your hard drive cable. Most hard drive manufacturers will ship one along with their hard drives so finding a replacement cable should be really easy.

Symptoms:
1) Your PC frequently freezes on hard drive access
2) When yor PC freezes your desktop functions like your mouse cursor were the last to hang
3) Your hard drive /IDE access lights stay continually lit when in the ‘hang’ state
4) Checking your Event Viewer logs, inside your control panel, shows you several disk errors under the “System” row with the following (or similar) text:
“The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.”

If after swapping your hard drive cable, the problem still exists, change the power connector to a spare one or one from another device, as there could be a power issue. If changing the power connector solves the problem, then you need to look for a replacement power supply and change your existing one ASAP.

If changing the power connector does not provide a solution, then look for updated device drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

Today, I found this terrific domain which had recently expired and was available for registration. My theory about domain names is that if you see something that can generate even 50 direct visits a day, it’ll pay for itself in a couple of months even by parking it with a service like SEDO.com. If you’re lucky you may get a nice buyout for a couple thousand dollars.

I use Name.com and DirectNIC.com for almost all of my domain booking needs. I found that in this instance Name.com was down with no access to their control panel. Say you had to have a new website/service launched the next day, I am sure you would have had a stressful day if this was the case. This makes me wonder if going for a larger business that is more expensive for some of its services, may be justified in some cases where availability is mission critical. In the screenshot below we see a nice LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) implementation powering Name.com.
